Dental Implants FAQs

Choosing to get dental implants is a life changing decision. It is important to understand the procedure before going ahead. These are some dental implants FAQs we are asked by our patients, answered by the experts in dental implantology from Apollo.

Are dental implants as strong as natural teeth?

They can be. Dental implants are made from titanium and therefore can last for years with proper maintenance. They are able to withstand more pressure than natural teeth too, so as long as you clean and care for them properly, yes, they are physically stronger.

Can dental implants last a lifetime?

Only with proper maintenance. The material of the dental implant, titanium, is incredibly strong and therefore can easily stand up to the wear and tear of every day. Some people may need them to be replaced after around 25 years, but if cared for really well, with regular cleaning and a low-sugar diet, they can last a lifetime.

Are dental implants necessary after extraction?

Dental implants are by no means a necessity. However, if you have a tooth or teeth extracted, they offer a permanent, durable, natural looking alternative to bridges or dentures. The dental implant is fitted directly into your jaw and can therefore be cared for exactly as you would natural teeth.

Do dental implants prevent bone loss?

As the dental implant is fitted into the jawbone, like a natural tooth root would do, this means the jawbone also remains strong and is prevented from deteriorating. You will need to have a strong existing jawbone to have dental implants fitted, but if you have already suffered bone loss, there are pre-treatments we can do to rebuild the bone so that an implant can be fitted. Take a look at our pre-treatment services here.

How are dental implants inserted?

There is a minor surgical procedure required to insert the implant, where we place the titanium screw into the jawbone. An abutment, which is a connecting piece, is then fitted to the screw and a temporary crown is fitted to this whilst the implant below heals. After healing is complete, which typically takes a few months, the temporary crown is replaced with a permanent one.

How can I finance dental implants?

Dental implants are a long term investment and we understand that the upfront cost can be challenging for some people. We offer 0% interest monthly payment plans which allow you to spread the cost of your implant, without any additional charges. Just ask the consultant at your free consultation, and they will be happy to explain the different payment options to you.
