About the treatment

As with any implants, we will need to assess the jawbone structure prior to the treatment to determine whether there is enough bone to insert the implants into. If not, we can rebuild it using various bone grafting techniques. Once the jawbone is determined okay, 4-6 titanium screws (also known as the implants) are inserted into the bone during a small surgical procedure, providing a stable foundation for your full arch fixed dental bridge. Following the procedure, a temporary bridge is fitted to the implants whilst they heal, then after a few months you will be fitted with a permanent bridge and a brand-new smile!

Pre-implant treatments and when they are required

When a tooth or multiple teeth have been gone for a long time, the jawbone beneath the missing root can start to shrink from lack of stimulation. This can mean that there is sometimes insufficient jawbone to place the implants into. In such cases, we have various pre-implant treatments that can be used to rebuild the bone if it has already shrunk. We can also preserve the socket if you are in the early stages of extraction, allowing you to continue with dental implant treatment afterwards.

Common questions for full arch implants

Yes! The implants are placed at a specific position and angle to provide a secure base to support your dental bridge. This method is tried and tested and has proven successful.

Whilst dentures are the cheaper option short-term, dental implants are the closest thing you can get to having real teeth and are a fantastic long-term option. Dentures can also be problematic when it comes to eating, speech and comfort. Because they sit on top of the gums, they also do not prevent your jawbone from receding which can affect your appearance. Because full arch dental implants are inserted into the jawbone, they prevent receding from happening. As a fixed solution, they are more comfortable and allow you to eat all your favourite foods, just as you would with real teeth.

Yes! Many patients who opt for implants have been missing teeth for a long time and have tried other solutions first, such as dentures. Depending on the density of your jawbone however, you may require some pre-implant treatments before having implants placed.

If you need to have bone grafting, it basically means that there is not enough jawbone underneath the gum to place the implant into. In cases such as this, we have a number of bone grafting treatments that we can use to build the bone back up, so that there is a solid foundation in which to place the implant.

Following any dental implant surgery, a soft food diet is recommended for the first week. After that, your diet can more or less go back to normal, even with your temporary crowns (with the exception of really chewy or crunchy foods such as nuts, toffees or raw vegetables). After a few months, when you get your permanent crowns, your diet can go completely back to normal.
