Why dental implants?

Dental implants allow you to continue life as normal, without the worry of gaps in your smile or dentures. You can eat all your favourite foods, smile with confidence again and no longer have to think about your teeth. More importantly, because the dental implant is inserted into the jawbone, it continues to stimulate the bone just like a normal tooth. This prevents the jawbone from receding, maintaining the natural shape of your face and a more youthful appearance.

Immediately placed implants vs delayed implants

If you are considering dental implants alongside a tooth extraction, you may be given the option of immediately placed dental implants or delayed dental implants. Immediate dental implants are placed as soon as a tooth has been extracted. This tends to be the less common option, as it is not always suitable for many patients. The alternative is delayed dental implants, which uses a more gradual process and multiple steps between extraction and the placing of the implant.

Our process

You can rest assured that you’re in safe hands with Apollo Dental. From initial consultations right through to aftercare, we’re here to support you.

1. Initial consultation

Our initial consultations are free of charge and enable you to come in, meet our implantologist and discuss your requirements and the options available, before committing to any treatments.

2. Pre-implant investigation

Prior to your treatment, we will take photos, 3D scans, X-rays and impressions of your teeth. This allows us to fully understand your oral health and can develop a treatment plan suited to you.

3. Treatment plan

You will then have the opportunity to discuss our treatment plan, ask any questions about our recommendations and ensure you are happy with the proposed plan.

4. Getting the implants

Once you’re happy with the treatment plan, we are ready to do the implant surgery. Initially, we place the implants and a temporary crown. After a few months (once the implant has had time to heal) we will fit your permanent abutment and crown.

5. Aftercare

Once your final fittings have been placed, we will continue to review your implants as part of our aftercare service and ensure that everything is well with your implant. Should any issues at all arise, we will be here to support you.

Common questions

Whilst dentures are the cheaper option short-term, dental implants are the closest thing you can get to restoring your real teeth. Dentures can also be problematic when it comes to eating, speech and comfort, and because they sit on top of the gums, they do not prevent your jawbone from receding which overtime can affect your appearance. Because fixed implants are inserted into the jawbone, they prevent receding from happening. They are also more comfortable and allow you to eat all your favourite foods, as well as looking aesthetically just like real teeth.

We can design your dental implants to perfectly match your smile, so that no one will be able to tell that it’s an implant. Our dental technicians are able to shape and colour-match the implant perfectly so that it blends in without a trace.

Dental implants may seem costly at first, however, in the long run they are the much better investment. If looked after properly, they can last you a lifetime and they also provide a much better quality of life than other solutions. Fixed to the jawbone, you do not have to take them out and put them back in, and as a close replica to real teeth, they are much better for your overall dental health.

The healing process is different for everyone, but usually takes between 4-6 months for a full recovery, before getting your permanent crowns fitted.

Most people with one or more missing teeth are suitable for dental implant treatment. Sometimes people might require pre-implant treatments, such as bone grafting, to rebuild the jawbone before having an implant, however, this rarely prevents people from being eligible. The only other things that may affect your eligibility is smoking (however, you can alter this by choosing to quit) or certain health issues. You can find out more about whether or not you are suitable during your initial consultation.
